ROCK IN ROMA [CONCERT REVIEW]

Poikabändi Ateez esiintyi heinäkuun alussa Rock in Rome tapahtumassa. Tapahtuma järjestettiin Ippodromo Capannellessa joten keikka oli ulkoilmakonsertti. Rooman kuumuudessa aikaisin paikalle saapuneet fanit pidettiin viileinä tarjoamalla vesipulloja ja paikoin myös suihkutettiin vettä pitkälle katsomoon, vielä auringon paahtaessa. Lipputyyppejä konsertissa oli kolme, Platinum, Gold ja Silver. Kaikille oli selkeästi rajattu omat alueet hiekkakentälle aidoilla. Muuten fiilis alueella oli todella festarien kaltainen. Alueella oli runsaasti erilaisia kioskeja niin rualle kuin juomallekin sekä vessoja löytyi ympäri aluetta usealta eri suunnalta. 

Paikalle oli saapunut faneja todella paljon ja tunnelma oli kuumuudesta huolimatta iloinen. Innokkaat fanit pitivät alusta asti hyvää meteliä Kpop Italian DJ:n, Yeong Deen esiintyessä lavalla. Deen kanssa lavalla nähtiin myös taidokas paikallinen, suuri tanssiryhmä NTENSE crew, jossa tanssi jopa yli 20 tanssijaa ja he tanssivat yhteensä noin tunnin ajan esittäen kuumimpia uutuusbiisejä sekä vanhempia klassikoita. 

DJ Yeong Deen ja tanssiryhmä NTENSE crewn lisäksi lavalla nähtiin Ateezin lämppärinä poikaryhmä Can't be Blue. Julkaisimme aiemmin haastattelun jonka pääsimme heille pitämään. Heidän esitys oli todella energinen ja tempaisi koko katsomon mukaansa heti alusta. He esittivät omia kappaleitaan sekä coverin Måneskinin biisistä "I wanna be your slave" joka tottakai sai Italialaiset fanit hyppimään riemusta ja laulamaan mukana kappaleen tahtiin. Can't be Blue esiintyi noin tunnin ajan ja poistui lavalta antaen tilaa illan päätähdille.

Pian olikin jo Ateezin aika astua lavalle. Valot pimenivät ja fanit alkavat kiljumaan. Ja niin Ateez saapui lavalle fanien riemuhuutojen säestyksellä. He polkaisivat esityksen käyntiin voimakkaasti “Guerrilla”:n kanssa ja jatkoivat siitä vielä “Fireworks”:lla ja “Say my name”:lla. Tämän jälkeen oli perinteisten esittelyiden vuoro ja Italialaisten fanien iloksi bändin jäsenet olivat opetelleet esittelemään itsensä osittain tai kokonaan Italiaksi. 

Illan aikana Ateez ei lavalla juurikaan jutellut keskenään tai fanien kanssa. He keskittyivät esiintymään mikä oli toisaalta myös ymmärrettävää koska alueella lähenteli edelleen 30 astetta ilta kymmenen jälkeen.

Ateez esitti illan aikana tottakai myös uusimman biisinsä “BAD” joka villitsi fanit, osittain myös viraaliksi nouseen tanssiliikkeen takia. Vaikka Ateez esitti illan aikana jopa 13 biisiä, tuli keikan loppu vastaan jo 55min päästä aloituksesta. Ateez esitti lista hittinsä “Adrenaline” ja “Bouncy” jonka jälkeen kiittivät faneja poistuivat lavalta.

Esitykseen ei kuulunut encorea ollenkaan joka sai fanit ymmälleen.

Ateez esiintyi siis vain vajaan tunnin ajan. Fanit olivat ymmällään, eivätkä tietenkään halunneet uskoa siihen, että keikka oli todella jo ohitse. Pikkuhiljaa kuitenkin ensimmäiset fanit alkoivat kävellä kohti ulkoportteja. Tunnelma oli pettynyt ja hämmentynyt. Monet puhuivat siitä miten lyhyt esitys oli ja miten Ateezin esitys tuntui erilaiselta kuin ennen. 

Keikan yht'äkkisestä loppumisesta ja setin ajallisesti lyhyestä kestosta huolimatta oli tapahtuma hyvin järjestetty. Alueella oli runsaasti vessoja, ruokakojuja, vettä oli tarjolla sekä fanien hyvinvoinnista huolehdittiin hyvin. Järjestäjä oli jopa järjestänyt bussikuljetuksia pois alueelta faneille, joka helpotti tuhansien fanien poistumista alueelta keskellä yötä, kun lähes kaikki julkisen liikenteen välineet olivat poissa käytöstä yöaikaan.

A boygroup called Ateez recently performed in Rock in Rome, at the beginning of July. This event was held in Ippodromo Capannelle - so it was an outdoors gig. The fans who arrived early were kept cool by spraying water into the stands and organizers offered chilled water bottles to battle the heat that was blasting Rome.There were three tiers to the tickets, Platinum, Gold and Silver. Areas were clearly divided to reflect these tiers in the pit. Otherwise it really felt like a festival.The area was littered with different kiosks offering fans food and beverages to survive the day. It was good to see multiple toilets placed on both sides, surrounding the whole area.

As groups of fans started to gather the atmosphere was uplifting despite the radiating heat from above. The most enthusiastic fans went to hype themselves up with Kpop Italia’s DJ - Yeong Deen’s set on the stage. Along with Deen’s beats we also saw a big local dancegroup called NTNSE crew take the stage. Over 20 dancers performed some of the newest kpop hit songs and most beloved classics for an hour.

After DJ Yeong Deen and the dancegroup NTNSE crew were finished with their sets, a boygroup called Can’t be Blue arrived on the stage - they were the opening act for Ateez. We previously published an interview which we were lucky to get with them. Their performance was very energetic and pulled the whole audience along from the get go. Their setlist compiled of their own songs and a cover of Måneskin’s song “I wanna be your slave” which of course made the Italian fans go wild and sing from the bottom of their hearts. Can’t be Blue performed for an hour and as they left the stage it was time for the main act.

It was time for Ateez to take the limelight. The stage went dark as fans roared in anticipation. Then the group itself appeared on stage accompanied by fans chanting in joy. Kicking the setlist off with a blast as “Guerrilla” let the speakers go wild. Next up was “Fireworks” and “Say my name”. As per tradition, it was time for the group to introduce themselves after such a blaring opening to the gig. It was endearing to see that the members had practiced to introduce themselves fully or partially in Italian, much to Italian fans' delight. 

During the evening Ateez didn’t chit chat much either along themselves nor with the fans. They honed in on the performance which on the other hand was understandable - the heat was still hovering at 30 degrees by 10 PM.
Ateez did perform their newest song “BAD” which made the fans go even wilder, partially because of the dance move which had gone viral. Even though Ateez did perform 13 songs in total, the gig was coming to an end at the 55 minute mark. To go out with a bang - their last two songs were “Adrenaline” and “Bouncy” after which the members thanked their fans for coming and walked off the stage.

The lack of an encore was spreading confusion among the fans.
In total Ateez performed for less than an hour. Fans were surprised, and couldn’t believe that the gig really was over. However bit by bit the first fans started to move towards the gates to leave the venue. Confusion and disappointment was palpable in the air. Many spoke on the way out how the runtime was shorter than usual and how Ateez’s performance felt different to what it was before.

Despite the gig being over so suddenly and the setlist being shorter than usual - the event was well organized. The fans’ welfare was taken into account with enough water, food stands and toilets. They even organized buses to give fans a lift from the festival area during the night, because the local public transport was not available at that hour anymore.
